CAMBAR CHICKENS
THE CAMBAR CHICKEN WAS THE START OF THE POULTRY EGG PRODUCTION REVOLUTION BETWEEN 1914 AND 1920 AT A TIME WHEN THE POULTRY EGG INDUSTRY WAS STRUGGLING.
DUE TO THE WAR THERE WERE HIGH RUNNING COSTS OF FEEDING UP THOUSANDS OF CHICKENS ONLY TO FIND OUT AT BEST 50% WILL BE COCKERELS AND WILL NEVER LAY AN EGG,BACK THEN IT WAS ALOT HARDER TO DETERMINE THE SEX OF CHICKS,IT WAS AT THIS POINT A GENETICS PROFESSOR REGINALD CRUNDALL PUNNETT (WHO IS MOST FAMOUS FOR THE PUNNET SQUARE USED FOR PREDICTING GEONTYPE OF OFFSPRING) HAD THE THEORY THAT CHICKS DOWN COLOR AND MARKINGS COULD BE USED FOR DETERMINING SEX OF CHICKS AT HATCHING.
AFTER MANY YEARS CROSS BREEDING HE CREATED THE CAMBAR CHICKEN, THE FIRST CHICKEN THAT COULD BE SEXED AT HATCHING, EGG PRODUCERS PROFITS SKY ROCKETED.
SINCE THEN MANY AUTO SEXING BREEDS HAVE BEEN CREATED AND OVER TIME THE CAMBAR WAS LOST ALONG THE WAY BUT ALMOST 100 YEARS ON WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY RECREATED THEM WITH SEVERAL UNRELATED BREEDING LINES.
